New Year, New Chapter

Oh bloggie, I've missed you, but I have to be honest when I say baby is no longer the new black (soooooo 2010), now toddlers, tantrums, frenzy, and fusion are the new black, gray, charcoal, and pewter. Let me explain . . . .

With the new year came a whole new set of celebrations and challenges for the Sliger clan, as mommy went back to work . . . (wait for it) full time! I know the majority of today's moms have been in my (new) shoes for the majority of their time as mothers, but for me, after spending a year plus immersing myself in mommy culture, it was quite the shock to ALL our systems. The good news is that the transition is going as well as we could possibly wish for and this is one mama who is lovin' her new job in the world of academia! My colleagues are inspiring, my work fulfilling, and my soul is shining knowing that the work I'm doing (development ~ aka: event planning for all those big wig donors) is helping to ensure that higher ed will continue to thrive and become more and more accessible for all, including my shiny little student.

This new chapter and new year could not have come at a better time (ok moms, this one's for you, so listen up), let me explain . . . anyone who knows me, knows I am a woman of MANY passions, constantly evolving, and with that comes new experiences, adventures, and dreams. A little crazy, I know, but it's what makes me tick, happy to be alive, and this love of life has led our family on some extraordinary journeys. . . just wait until Jackson (and future sibs) are old enough to adventure! For some reason I've been fighting my natural evolution of letting my new passions guide me, and struggling to hold on to someone I'm just not anymore, essentially trying to be/live/think like pre-baby Keri, just with a little one toddling behind, because I 'had to' . . . who told me I 'had to' I'll never know. Fifteen months into being a mother and I finally had that "ah ha moment" of motherhood changes you, I have no words to describe my insanity but am SO happy the ah ha gods finally shined down on me. And now that they have I can't wait to embrace this new chapter with open arms, so watch out family because mama's on a role!

In the spirit of evolution my love of design has had to take a leap to the functional side (working mommy/small house . . . need I say more), but being that I'm me, I can't do function without a little frill. Here's a little peak of the finds that have brought some frilly function to our home these past few months.

Refrigerator chalkboard as featured on The Inspired Room for all those nanny notes, a Bodum french press for that morning cup of my hubby's famous cowboy coffee (known to the rest of the world as 'french pressed coffee'), alarm clock from West Elm (who says you can't wake in style?), and chalkboard shoe basket from Cost Plus World Market for all those little shoes cluttering up the kitchen - bonus, just another way for J to learn his letters.

I'm not the only one evolving around here, bring on the toddler and tantrums! Jackson, simply put is amazing right now. Amazingly vocal, brilliant, funny, handsome, physical, and oh so difficult! Check out the little man as he puts his best toddler forward.

This kid really knows how to let it all hang out!

Feeling brainy with a friend.

Showing off his strut, spits, and let's not forget the self-applied marker makeup!

Happy 2011 everyone, I hope your year is also full of love, laughter, and of course a little evolution. And bloggie, while this new chapter might not leave me as much time as I'd like to devote to you, baby will always be the new black.
